Camino Del Norte (Part 1): San Sebastián to Orio

Updated: Dec 19, 2023

Easy compared to other days on the Camino Del Norte. Plenty of stops and the hills are moderate on this day. If you have time and can add days to the trail, Orio is the perfect distance. If you dont have much time, Zarautz should be the stopping point.

There better be more Pinchos soon.....

The Start - San Sebastian

Morning pinchos of ham, peppers, salmon and more

Breakfast Pinchos, hitting these up again! Hotel Atari is a class act.

We felt bad. The hotel offered a free cooked breakfast, fancy stuff too, but this is what happens when you give animals nice things. The staff would glance over to make sure we were ok ever so often. We were ok.

The Walk

Leaving San Sebastian - 9AM

Leaving the center of food was so sad but the town was beautiful to walk through. The beach was gorgeous with dogs running in the sand, enjoying alone time with their owners in the morning.

The Trail

Lots of little side trails as we left the city. Once we hit the main trail, the path was clear. The trail was side roads, local nature trails and a mix of the two.

Destination - Orio

Town - 2:15 pm

The town was cute and lovely. A very short walk today so we got in around 2 pm. A few places open but not for long cause siesta was coming shortly. Nothing is worse than walking to no food and drink.

Hotel - Villa Antilla

Hotel room at a spa in Orio

Details

  • 15 minute walk from trail and town

  • Spa - reserve a time when you get there

    • Extra $10 for slippers if you dont have and slippers are required.

  • Massage - we booked a few weeks before

  • Dinner - Recommended reservation (we skipped)

  • Bar - has food (we did this)

The spa and massage was needed. The spa had many pools, not too hot (probably best in summer) and the massage was great.

Dinner was sit down or at the bar, we did bar so we could move around or run away at any moment. Too tired and awkward to do the whole song and dance at table with a server.
